Over the course of Sumukh’s career, he has worked collaboratively with clinicians, senior leadership, and frontline staff to effect change and drive results at every organizational level. With his leadership experience in academic healthcare, Sumukh is familiar with the complex challenges unique to academic medical centers, along with the data-driven approaches required to find meaningful and sustainable solutions. From his well-rounded involvement working with various groups in different settings, Sumukh is able to relate to his clients’ challenges, values, and priorities, offering insights and making recommendations, as applicable, for each stakeholder.
Prior to joining ECG, Sumukh worked at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. As the division administrator for neurosurgery, he was responsible for strategy, operations, research administration, and GME programs. In his role, Sumukh implemented a same-day access program and increased available appointment slots by 26% through the addition of screening clinics. He also partnered with clinical leadership to add three new subspecialty programs and grew a national referral base for a flagship program, resulting in a 68% increase in its average perioperative contribution margin. Moreover, Sumukh designed and implemented a performance management system for the Department of Surgery at Lurie Children’s. Additionally, working as a performance improvement consultant for Lurie Children’s, Sumukh led several enterprise-wide operational improvement initiatives. He also identified $7 million in contribution margin opportunities through streamlined and standardized revenue cycle processes and improvements for scheduling in high-revenue areas.
